The membership and leadership of Choice Community Credit Union (CFCU)
have agreed to merge with Durham-based Self-Help Credit Union (SHCU).
As a result of the merger, Choice Federal has again become Choice
Community Credit Union (CCCU), and will operate as a division of
Self-Help Credit Union. The official merger date was January 1, 2010.
“By merging with Self-Help Credit Union, we remain dedicated to our
mission of providing outstanding financial service to our members and
their families, as we have for 30 years. We believe wholeheartedly that
the decision to merge will not only increase the financial stability of
Choice, but also expand our ability to serve communities throughout the
Greensboro and greater Triad area,” says CCCU Chief Executive Officer
Martha Miller.
Self-Help Credit Union’s CEO, Martin Eakes, a native of Greensboro, sees
the merger as a win for both credit unions. “Self-Help Credit Union has
served communities throughout North Carolina for nearly three decades
and has operated an office in downtown Greensboro for more than 15
years. We are excited to partner with Choice, and we look forward to
continuing to build on the foundation that Martha Miller and her team
have established over the last 30 years,” says Eakes.
Choice Community Credit Union has one branch serving a membership of
more than 9,000 members and has assets in excess of $47 million. In
operating as a division of Self-Help Credit Union, Choice Community
Credit Union joins these other credit unions across North Carolina which
also operate as divisions of Self-Help CU: Cape Fear Credit Union,
Scotland Community Credit Union, Wilson Community Credit Union, and
Carolina Mountains Credit Union.
